Marc Schrijver is a Senior Financial Sector Specialist in the Finance, Competitiveness, and Innovation Global Practice of the World Bank. He is leading the financial sector work program of the World Bank in Southern Africa since 2021. The work program covers three strategic pillars: (i) financial stability and integrity; (ii) access to financial services; and (iii) resource mobilization for sustainable finance. He also led the work on the Climate Finance Chapter of the South Africa Country Climate and Development Report.
Marc started working for the World Bank on financial sector development in 2013 and worked since then in several regions e.g. Europe, Central Asia, South Asia, Africa and Middle East. Between 2001 and 2013 he has been an on-site prudential bank supervisor at the Dutch Central Bank where he was also the founder and manager of the Supervisory Academy. Its main objective was to build capacity for effective supervision. Before 2001 he worked several years for a commercial bank in the Netherlands.
Marc is a graduate in Economics by the University of Rotterdam and has a master's degree in Finance and Control from the University of Amsterdam, Netherlands. He also participated in several (international) programs on how to design, initiate and facilitate large system change in theory and practice.
