Margo Hoftijzer is a skills development and youth employment expert with over 20 years of experience in more than 40 countries across Africa, Europe, the Middle East and Asia. Previously a Senior Economist at the World Bank, she is now a consultant and advises a wide range of clients on better aligning education and training with labor and skills demand.
Margo has led and contributed to the design, implementation, and evaluation of numerous operations in a diverse range of low- and middle-income countries, including fragile states. She has led and contributed to peer-reviewed publications, research, and blogs aimed at improving education and training systems’ contribution to poverty reduction and inclusive economic development. She was the lead consultant in the team that prepared the 2023 “Building Better Formal TVET Systems” report, a joint effort by the World Bank, ILO and UNESCO to synthesize evidence and best practices for technical and vocational education and training (TVET) in low- and middle income countries. Her recent focus is on skills development for the green transition.
