Maria Margarita is a Senior Highways Engineer who joined the World Bank in the East Asia and Pacific Region in 2002; she has led transport sector projects in Latin America and in Asia, mainly in Peru, Paraguay, Vietnam, Cambodia, and Laos. Before joining the Bank Maria Margarita worked in the Inter-American Development Bank for more than 11 years as a Transport Specialist with duties in Honduras, Nicaragua and Panama. She has proven experience in highway engineering, implementation of pavement and road asset management systems, performance based contracting, pavement design and evaluation, and rural roads policy, planning and implementation in Latin America and East Asia. She has held Titular Professor positions at the National University of Honduras and the Jose Cecilio del Valle University and has been involved in several capacities in the Municipality of Tegucigalpa and consultant companies. She also worked as research assistant in the US Army Corps of Engineers and in the University of Illinois. Maria Margarita holds a doctorate degree in Civil Engineering – Transport Facilities, with specialization in Recycled Asphalt Mixtures for Pavements and Post Doctorate Studies, both at the University of Illinois at Urbana -Champaign.
