Maria Vizeu-Pinheiro is a lawyer specializing in environmental, climate, and natural resources governance. With over 13 years of experience, she has worked extensively in multilateral organizations such as the World Bank and the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), as well as in the public and private sectors across Latin America and the Caribbean, Europe, and Africa. Maria joined the World Bank in June 2020. She works on natural resources and blue economy operations, conducts environmental assessments, and provides legal and governance advice across Latin America and the Caribbean, and Africa. Before joining the Bank, she worked for six years at the environmental operational unit at the IBD, where she led and coordinated the design of a new tool for assessing Environmental Governance. She holds a law degree and MA from the Complutense University of Madrid, an LL.M in Environment and Climate Change from Georgetown University Law Center, and several certificates on environmental policy.
