Marie-Hélène Bricknell is currently the World Bank’s Special Representative to Iraq since June 2011, where she is responsible for the Bank’s policy dialogue with the Iraqi government and other major stakeholders in Iraqi society. Prior to her appointment, she served as the Bank’s Country Manager in Turkey and as Country Program Coordinator in Africa, where she covered East Africa, including Somalia and the Indian Ocean countries. Over the span of her long career in the Bank, she lead teams working on public sector reforms, including civil service reform, in several francophone African countries. She was instrumental in helping Equatorial Guinea find a suitable investor to exploit the country’s oil resources in the 1990s. She played a key role in promoting foreign direct investment in Turkey through her work with the Government of Turkey, most specifically on the establishment of the Investors’ Advisory Council for Turkey. She has also contributed to the corporate agenda over the years and is currently a member of the Peer Services Panel. Ms. Bricknell’s country experience is extensive with decades of experience ranging from Africa to Europe and now the Middle East. Ms. Bricknell received her Master’s Degree in Romance Languages and Literature from the University of London and a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from the John F. Kennedy School, Harvard University. Ms. Bricknell speaks several languages and is currently a student of Arabic.
