Dr. Marinos Skempas is a Structural Civil Engineer graduate of the National Technical University of Athens, with an M.Sc., and Ph.D. in Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering from Imperial College, U.K. He has over 30 years of experience in the design, construction, supervision, quality assurance, climate change adaptation and resilience and Disaster Risk Management of large scale geotechnical, structural and highway engineering projects involving highways, roads, bridges, embankments, cut slopes, tunnels, landslides, rock falls, dams, buildings.
Since 2011 Marinos has been involved as an ETC/STC in various WB projects in Azerbaijan, Armenia, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Serbia, Bosnia, Bulgaria, Moldova, Ukraine, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Vietnam, Myanmar, Nepal, Malawi, Haiti, North Macedonia. He is also working as a geotechnical consultant for other IFIs (EIB) and government organizations.
