Martha Denisse Pierola

Martha Denisse Pierola is a trade and development economist, currently working on Competition and SOEs in the Competitiveness Unit of the World Bank. Previously, she worked in the Trade Unit of the Research Department where she co-created the World Bank's Exporter Dynamics Database and published several papers on export growth and development. Before rejoining the World Bank in 2021, she worked for the Inter-American Development Bank where she studied the impact of import competition and migration shocks on labor outcomes and firm-level productivity in Latin America.  She has a PhD in International Economics from the Graduate Institute of International Studies in Geneva and a Master of International Law and Economics from the World Trade Institute in Bern.
