Maryam Akmal is an Economist in the World Bank’s Education Global Practice. Her work primarily focuses on the use of data and evidence to inform education policy. In her role, she has contributed to the Accelerator Program, Learning Poverty indicator, and the Global Education Policy Dashboard. Prior to joining the World Bank, Maryam worked as a Senior Policy Analyst with the global education team at the Center for Global Development, where she helped launch a research consortium to produce policy-relevant insights on the educational impacts of Covid-19 with partners in Sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia. In a previous role, she was a part of the directorate at the RISE (Research on Improving Systems of Education) program. Maryam holds a Master in Public Policy from Georgetown University and a BA in Economics from Oberlin College.
