Massimiliano is the Senior country economist for the World Bank in Tunisia, where he leads the Bank’s macroeconomic, fiscal and trade advisory and lending work. Previous positions with the World Bank include Senior economist working on trade and competitiveness in the Indonesia office and economist in the Global Trade team, where he focused on ways to use trade policy to reduce poverty and conflict. Prior to joining the Bank, he served as an economic advisor to the Palestinian Ministry of National Economy, as a research fellow with the Overseas Development Institute and as an economist with the Italian embassy to Bolivia. He has published on trade and development, energy, migration and urbanization in peer-reviewed journals and books. Some of his work has been featured in international and domestic media. He holds a PhD in Economic Geography from the London School of Economics.
