Mathews has over two decades of experience in the water sector. He joined the Bank in 2011 as the State Coordinator for the Water and Sanitation Program in Rajasthan and spearheaded a successful technical assistance program on rural sanitation in Rajasthan and the Swachh Bharat Mission. Since 2017, he has worked in lending operations, managing an urban sanitation program in Sri Lanka and water supply and sanitation programs in Uttarakhand and Tamil Nadu. He has also co-led critical components of large lending operations like the Swachh Bharat Mission Support Operation, Chennai City Partnership, and Dam Rehabilitation and Improvement Project. He has acquired expertise in results-based financing through his participation in a GPOBA project and six PforR programs. Prior to joining the Bank, he worked in various projects within international organizations and government entities. Mathews holds a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from the University of Calicut and a master’s degree in international development from the University of Bristol, with Commonwealth Scholarship.
