Mathieu is an Economic Affairs Officer at the Financing for Sustainable Development Office of the United Nations where he conducts, among other things, policy research on incentivizing greater private investment into the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), as part of his work under the Inter-Agency Task Force on Financing for Development to which almost 60 agencies contribute. Prior to that, he worked for several years with governments in Asia and the Pacific in supporting them to effectively use public-private partnerships (PPPs) for infrastructure development. He also worked for the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and the European Commission (EC) on financing infrastructure projects in Eastern Europe, Central Asia and North Africa through blending mechanisms. He started his career in the private banking sector, mainly as a corporate banker. Mathieu holds master degrees in economics and business management from two universities in Belgium (ULB and UCL).
