Mekbib Haile is an Agriculture Economist at the Agriculture and Food Global Practice (AGF GP) in the East Asia and Pacific Region. In this role he has worked on several analytical and lending operations in the areas of agribusiness and value chain development, food safety, food markets, climate smart agriculture (CSA), public expenditure and policy, and digital agriculture technologies in Myanmar, Cambodia, China, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Mongolia, China, Thailand, and Vietnam. As the EAP focal person for the GP, he has contributed to several operations and dialogue on areas of CSA and Food Security.
Mekbib joined the World Bank in 2017 as a Young Professional at the Europe and Central Asia region of the AGF GP. Prior to the Bank, he was a researcher at the Center for Development Research of Bonn University where he managed a multi-country research project on the impact of food market instabilities on the poor in Bangladesh, Ethiopia, Ghana, and India. He holds a Ph.D. in Ag Economics from Bonn University and an M.Sc. in Development and Resource Economics from the School of Economics and Business of the Norwegian University of Life Sciences.
