Mette Frost Bertelsen lives in Vietnam, where she is the Country Officer and Gender Focal Point for the World Bank's Vietnam Country Office. Together with a colleague, she has been responsible for overseeing the development of Vietnam’s new Country Partnership Strategy 2012-16 recently endorsed by the Board. She has previously worked in the Empowerment Team of the World Bank's Poverty Reduction Anchor Unit, where the work included co-authoring a book on how to operationalize and measure empowerment. She has also worked in various civil society organizations based in Latin America, focusing on participation, gender, democratization, empowerment and poverty dynamics.
