Michel Welmond has 25 years of experience as an education specialist, managing partner supported programs for the development of education systems worldwide. He has applied his expertise to a broad range of areas such as systemic education reforms, teacher management, improving educational quality, institutional reorganization, and decentralization. He has worked at all levels of education, both formal and nonformal, as well as with sector-wide and inter-sector approaches. He has conducted research on teacher policy, education reform implementation, and the contribution of nongovernmental stakeholders to education reform. He joined the World Bank in 2002. He has managed education programs in the Middle East and North Africa and Sub-Saharan Africa Regions. He is the co-author of the MENA Education Flagship Report. He was an education cluster leader for the Africa Region, where he was responsible for overseeing the education sector programs of 15 countries. He was the education advisor for the IFC Education for Employment Initiative for Arab Youth. He is currently the task team leader for the Human Development Network SABER initiative (Systems Approach to Better Education Results).
