Michel Wormser is Vice President and Chief Operating Officer for the Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA), the political risk insurance arm of the World Bank Group.
Wormser joined the World Bank Group in 1978 and has served in a range of capacities across the organization. Prior to joining MIGA in 2011, he served as Director of Operations and Strategy in the Bank’s Africa region. From 2003 to 2008, Wormser served as Director of the Infrastructure Department and Director of the Sustainable Development Department in the region. From 2001 to 2003, he was Director of the World Bank’s Guarantee Program. While leading the guarantees department, he strengthened partnerships with MIGA and the International Finance Corporation (IFC), including the delivery of joint operations such as the Bujagali dam in Uganda, the West Africa gas pipeline, and the Nam Theun II dam in the Lao People’s Democratic Republic. Wormser also served as Senior Advisor to the Executive Vice President of IFC and Vice President for Private Sector Development in the World Bank.
From 1997 to 2000, Wormser joined Société Générale in Paris as Director in the bank’s Project Finance Department, where he was responsible for advising and arranging limited recourse financing of energy projects.
He holds a master’s of business administration from the University of California, Berkeley and a degree in economics, finance, and business administration from the Ecole Supérieure de Sciences Economiques et Commerciales in France.
