Mona Luisa Niebuhr is a Senior Social Protection Specialist in the World Bank’s Social Protection and Jobs Global Practice based in Washington DC. In her current role, she leads the World Bank's social protection program in Burundi, supporting the government in establishing its first national productive social safety program. Mona also co-leads the social protection program in Somalia.
She previously worked as Fragility, Conflict and Violence (FCV) Coordinator across several fragile contexts including Chad, Niger, Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), and most recently Burundi.
Prior to joining the Bank she worked across various organizations, including in GIZ’s Global Partnerships division, the Council on Foreign Relations' Center for Preventive Action, UNDP's Washington Representation Office, and the international NGO The Advocacy Project. She holds a Master of Science in Foreign Service at Georgetown University, Washington DC.
