Dr. Mthuli Ncube is the Chief Economist and Vice President of the African Development Bank (AfDB). He is responsible for overall knowledge management and economic strategy, and supervises the departments of Research, Department of Statistics, and African Development Institute.
Dr. Ncube holds a PhD in Economics, specializing in Mathematical Finance, from Cambridge University, UK. He was also a Lecturer in Finance at the London School of Economics, UK. He was Dean of the Faculty of Commerce Law and Management, and also Dean and Professor of Finance at Wits Business School, all at University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa. He is now Chairman of the Board of African Economic Research Consortium (AERC). He has extensive experience in investment banking.
Dr. Ncube has published 5 books and numerous papers in economics and finance.
Dr. Ncube was nominated Chairman of the Global Agenda Council of the World Economic Forum on “Poverty and Economic Development in 2010/2011 and Deputy Chairman in 2011/2012.
