Senior Water Supply and Sanitation Specialist

Ousmane Yida Yaya Bocoum is a senior water supply and sanitation specialist, based in Lusaka/Zambia. Ousmane, a national of Burkina Faso, joined the World Bank in 2019 as Senior Water Supply and Sanitation within the West and Central Africa Water team, based in Ouagadougou. He contributed to multiple operations and analytical tasks within the region, including most recently as TTL of the Burkina Faso Water Supply and Sanitation Payment for Results Program, and regional focal point for the Citywide Inclusive Sanitation initiative. Prior to joining the Bank, Ousmane worked with the French Development Agency (AFD), as senior project officer, and for the international nongovernmental organization WaterAid, responsible for successfully mobilizing the financial resources needed to implement the country strategy, which included sanitation project in peri-urban areas. He has worked for 13 years within the Burkina Faso National Urban Water and Sanitation Utility (ONEA), on projects preparation and implementation as a technical controller, then as head of the technical department, and finally as project director, dealing with dozens of multilateral and bilateral donors.

Ousmane graduated from Ouagadougou University and the International Institute for Water and Environmental Engineering (2iE), Ouagadougou, and he holds an executive education certificate “Leaders in Development,” from the Harvard Kennedy School of Government.
