Owen Nie is a senior economist with the World Bank’s East Asia & Pacific Region in the economics, finance and institutions team based in Washington DC. In this role, he leads and participates in policy dialogues on a wide range of economic and financial sector issues with authorities in multiple EAP client countries, including large policy lending operations in Indonesia and strategic analytical & advisory engagement in Thailand and the Philippines. He is also responsible for EAP regional macro-financial monitoring and analysis.
Prior to this, Owen was with the World Bank’s finance global team. He has extensive experiences with flagship reports and Bank core diagnostics, including the Country Economic Memorandum and the Financial Sector Assessment Program, in multiple countries. His academic and policy research and analysis cover fiscal policy, capital flow management, sovereign and corporate debt, the economics of climate change, and financial stability.
Owen holds a PhD in economics from the University of Michigan Ann Arbor, where he conducted research in international macroeconomics and produced forecasts of the economy of the United States.
