Pema is a civil engineer and independent consultant specializing in disaster risk management, heritage conservation, and sustainable development for over 12 years. He has served the Royal Government of Bhutan in various technical roles, including engineer, project manager, coordinator, and researcher, contributing to civil infrastructure projects, policies, and initiatives in collaboration with national and international partners. Pema led the establishment of Bhutan's first state-of-the-art engineering test facility and organized the country’s first capacity-building program for private sector professionals in heritage conservation. He is among the few Bhutanese engineers conducting scientific research on vernacular Bhutanese houses and historic monuments. Pema has co-authored several papers in national and international journals. Committed to making significant contributions to civil engineering and society, he aspires to become a distinguished educator and scientific practitioner. He holds a Master’s in Disaster Management from GRIPS, Japan, a Post Graduate Diploma in Earthquake Engineering, and a bachelor’s in civil engineering from Bhutan.
