Peter Darvas is a Senior Economist in the Education Global Practice of the World Bank Group. He joined the World Bank in 1998 and specializes in skills development, higher education, employment and labor market issues. He has led and supported analytical work and operations in education and gender in a range of countries from Macedonia, Kosovo, Albania, Croatia, Bosnia Hercegovina and Ukraine in Eastern Europe to Ghana, Sierra Leone and Liberia in West Africa. Peter also led and participated in global and regional flagship programs especially on higher education in Europe, Central Asia and in Sub-Saharan Africa. Prior to joining the World Bank, Peter was the Director of the International Higher Education Support Programme at the Open Society Foundation (a George Soros initiative), worked in the Ministry of Education in Hungary and as a lecturer at New York University. Peter holds a PhD and a Masters in Economics from the Corvinus University of Budapest.
