Prior to his appointment as Sector Manager Mr. Materu was Program Leader for higher education in the Africa Region, Cluster Leader for 16 countries in West Africa and task team leader of several analytical and lending operations.
Before joining the World Bank, Mr. Materu served in the positions of Director for Graduate Studies and also as Dean of the College of Engineering and Technology at the University of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. He has also worked briefly in the private sector.
Mr. Materu holds a PhD in Engineering and Master’s degrees in education and engineering. He is author of numerous publications in education and engineering.
