Peter Yanev has over 40 years of experience in natural hazards risk management and is considered one of the world leading authorities with regard to earthquakes. Peter co-founded and built the world’s largest natural hazards risk management company, EQE International where he pioneered the development of natural hazards (catastrophe) modeling for corporations and insurance. Since 1971, Peter has personally visited or sent teams to investigate the effects of over 120 natural disasters around the world, including many earthquakes in Mexico and Central and South America, starting with the devastating 1972 Managua, Nicaragua earthquake. He has led hundreds of projects around the world for major corporations, governments, and international organizations such as the development banks. He is also co-author of Peace of Mind in Earthquake Country (How to Save Your Home, Business, and Life), the best-selling earthquake risk management guide for homeowners, currently in its third edition. He has served on three academic boards at the University of California, Berkeley & MIT, his undergraduate and graduate schools, and was inducted to the UC Berkeley Civil and Environmental Engineering Academy of Distinguished Alumni in 2012. In 2001 Peter became a senior technical consultant for earthquake issues for the World Bank.
