Pia Roman Tayag

Director, Office of the United Nations Secretary-General’s Special Advocate for Inclusive Finance for Development (UNSGSA)

As director of the Office of the UNSGSA, Pia leads the team that supports Her Majesty Queen Máxima of the Netherlands’ work as the UN Secretary-General’s Special Advocate for Inclusive Finance for Development (UNSGSA). Before that, she spent 18 years at Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP), where she most recently was the managing director of BSP’s Center for Learning and Inclusion Advocacy. In that role, she focused on crafting policies and regulations, developing partnerships for financial education, strengthening consumer protection, building stakeholder relations, and implementing the National Financial Inclusion Strategy.

A Filipino national, Pia graduated with a bachelor’s degree in public administration from the University of the Philippines and a master’s degree in international affairs focused on economic development from Columbia University. She is also a fellow of the Fletcher School Leadership Program for Financial Inclusion at Tufts University.
