Pradeep Mitra is a former Chief Economist and a former Sector Director of the Poverty Reduction and Economic Management Unit in the World Bank's Europe and Central Asia Region. He has published widely in public economics, development economics and the economics of the transition from a command to a market economy. His most recent book, published by the World Bank in 2009 on the eve of the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin wall, is Turmoil at Twenty. He holds a D.Phil in Economics from Oxford University, where he was a Rhodes scholar.
