Pravin Karki is a Senior Hydropower Specialist in West Africa and is currently co-leading hydropower projects in Benin, Cameroon, Liberia and Nigeria. He has over 30 years of experience as a water resources, hydraulics, and hydropower engineer in consulting, international policy, and academic settings. Pravin served as the Global Lead for Hydropower and led the development of the hydropower strategy for the World Bank. He has special interest in institutional development, sediment management and climate change in the water resources, hydropower, and dams sector. He led the development of the climate change resilience guidelines which is widely used in the industry. He has worked on World Bank hydropower projects in Africa; Central, East, and South Asia; and the Pacific. Prior to joining the Bank in 2008, he worked in Nepal, Norway and the UK. He studied at the Czech Technical University, NTNU Norway and Cambridge University, UK. He speaks Nepali, Hindi, English, Czech, Russian, some Spanish and is learning French.
