Ralien Bekkers is the Co-chair Sherpa of the Coalition of Finance Ministers for Climate Action (CFMCA) for the Netherlands, leading international climate efforts at the Dutch Ministry of Finance. She has been working on climate action and sustainable development since 2009, starting at the national and local level in the Netherlands. Ralien Bekkers served as the Dutch UN Youth Representative on Sustainable Development from 2012-2014, engaging closely in the negotiations for the Paris Climate Agreement and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). For the adoption of the SDGs, she worked at the Executive Office of the UN Secretary-General in New York. At Yale University, she started and taught a course on implementation of the SDGs. She holds a Master of Environmental Management from Yale University and a Master of Science in Public Financial Management from SOAS University of London. Between 2017-2023, Bekkers worked at the NDC Partnership in Washington DC, a global climate coalition that assists countries to implement their national climate plans under the Paris Agreement. In April 2023, she published her first Dutch book on climate action, women’s leadership, and gender equality.
