Reema Nayar is Practice Manager in the Latin America and Caribbean Unit of the Education Global Practice of the World Bank. In this capacity, she provides strategic direction to the Bank’s analytical work, convening services and financing for education in the region, managing a team of over 30 professional staff. Prior to this she was Lead Economist at the Human Development Department in the South Asia region. Ms. Nayar has worked for over 20 years at the World Bank in several countries in the Africa, Europe and Central Asia and South Asia regions of the World Bank, and was visiting Assistant Professor at Virginia Tech in the Economics Department in 1994. She has written on a variety of issues including labor markets, education and skills, poverty and gender, and has also led a number of policy based and investment lending operations in a variety of middle and low income countries. Most recently, she was a lead author of the South Asia Region’s flagship publication: More and Better Jobs in South Asia (2012).
Ms. Nayar has a Ph.D. in Economics from Brown University, USA., and completed her graduate and undergraduate work at the University of Delhi.
