Senior Environmental Engineer

Rieko Kubota is a Senior Environmental Engineer with the expertise and experience in solid waste management, plastic pollution and circular economy. She is currently based in the Headquarter of the World Bank and working in the East Asia and Pacific region where she leads and supports the analytical works, policy dialogues and investment project preparation/implementation on solid waste management and plastic pollution agenda in the ASEAN countries. She also supports the policy advisory and project preparation on circular economy and water pollution management in European countries.  She covers multiple aspects of waste management from municipal solid waste to healthcare waste where she brings her technical knowledge to improve the capacity of the client government. 

Rieko joined the World Bank in 2020. Prior to joining the Bank, she was the National Institute for Environmental Studies in Japan, responsible for research, policy advisory and project management in solid waste management sector. She also involved in the ISO standardization on waste management-related standards.
