Robin Middelanis is a consultant with GFDRR and the World Bank. His work bridges quantitative modeling and development economics, applying computational and data-driven methods to questions of disaster risk and resilience. Robin updated and extended the Bank's Unbreakable model, which estimates a population's socio-economic resilience against disasters using a well-being-centered approach. His current projects focus on the well-being benefits of improved global hydrometeorological observations, country-level applications of the Unbreakable model to historical events, and quantifying the effects of disasters on global poverty and jobs. Prior to joining the World Bank, Robin worked as a researcher at the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research, where he studied the indirect economic impacts of local disasters through propagation in the global supply-chain network. He holds a PhD in Applied Computer Science from the University of Potsdam, Germany.
