Ruth Tiffer Sotomayor is a Senior Environmental Specialist at the World Bank for the Eastern Africa Region and before in the Latin America and Caribbean Region. She has more than 25 years of experience working in the conservation of biodiversity, restoration of ecosystems and environmental assessment of large infrastructure development.
Ruth has managed World Bank projects on fisheries, forest and landscape restoration, water resources, climate change adaptation, and mining remediation, among others. Ruth also oversees infrastructure development financed by the Bank in the sectors of hydropower, dams, water resources, urban and rural development, among others. She is a core team member of the Global Program of Nature-Based Solutions for Climate Resilience.
Ruth is an ecologist and an expert on tropical and freshwater ecosystems and leads the Biodiversity Conservation Technical Group in the World Bank. Before joining the Bank, Ruth worked with the government of Costa Rica in the National Protected Area System. Ruth has a Master’s in science on Natural Resources Management from the State University of New York and Syracuse University and a Master’s degree in Environmental Engineering from the University of Rioja, Spain.
