Sailesh Tiwari is a Lead Economist for the Poverty and Equity Global Practice of the World Bank, currently working in the East Asia and the Pacific region. He is also a global lead for the solutions group on Distributional Impacts of Fiscal and Social Policies. He has led the Bank’s engagements on poverty and equity issues in several countries across South Asia, Middle East and North Africa and Europe and Central Asia region in his previous roles and was based in Jakarta for four years from 2017 to 2021. During his time at the Bank, Sailesh has contributed to several development policy operations and investment projects, led and managed large multi-sectoral knowledge and technical assistance programs and contributed to and authored several influential reports that have informed policies and shaped World Bank operations. Notable recent outputs include Beyond Unicorns: Harnessing Digital Technologies for Inclusion in Indonesia, Time to ACT: Realizing Indonesia’s Urban Potential, and Aspiring Indonesia: Expanding the Middle Class. Sailesh holds a PhD in Economics from Brown University.
