Development Effectiveness Manager, Eastern and Southern Africa Region (AFE)

Sajjad Shah is currently the Manager of the Development Effectiveness Unit covering the Eastern and Southern Africa Region (AFE). AFEDE oversees the overall program (including loans and grants funded by the World Bank) and monitors the portfolio and program outcomes.
Sajjad has over 25 years of experience working in development in Sub-Saharan Africa, Middle East and North Africa, East Asia, and South Asia. His areas of expertise include strategy and operations, risk management and results enhancement. Sajjad started his career at the World Bank in the Private Sector Development Department in 1996. In addition to working on Bank operations, Sajjad has also managed large programs covering project preparation and social development at the World Bank. Prior to joining the World Bank, Sajjad worked in the manufacturing sector and in the banking sector.
Sajjad has a Master’s in Business Administration from Cornell University, and a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical / Digital Engineering from Arizona State University. He also holds master’s degrees from Queen's University and the Institute of Business Administration. Sajjad has attended Management Leadership Programs at Harvard University and Cambridge University and holds a certificate in International Finance from Georgetown University.
