Sam Jones is a development economist with interests in applied economic and policy analysis in developing countries, focusing on sub-Saharan Africa and Lusophone Africa in particular. He works extensively with macro- and micro-economic data from developing countries, applying a range of empirical tools. In addition to academic activities, Sam has professional field experience including seven years advising the government of Mozambique, as well as shorter visits to Tanzania, Zimbabwe, Nigeria, Vietnam (among others). Sam's specific research areas cover the economics of foreign aid, education quality, labour markets, policy (impact) evaluations, economic growth and poverty/welfare analysis including multi-dimensional deprivation.
