Sara Badiei has 10 years of experience working in the public and private sectors managing programs in energy, WASH and humanitarian logistics.
Sara has worked with Doctors Without Borders and the International Committee of the Red Cross to coordinate complex emergency relief efforts in conflict zones including Gaza and Afghanistan, launched infrastructure rehabilitation projects after natural disasters in the Philippines and coordinated emergency medical operations for disease outbreaks in Chad and Congo.
As an energy specialist, Sara has worked in utilities in Canada and the United States on power market redesign, renewable energy portfolio standards, Cap & Trade program implementation and power trading and grid optimization.
Sara currently works for the World Bank in Israel and the Palestinian Territories providing strategic input to the Palestinian Ministry of Energy’s national energy policy agenda and implementing the World Bank’s various energy projects on the ground. In addition, Sara is also part of the Jordan and Yemen World Bank energy teams.
Sara has a BASc and MASc in Electrical Engineering from the University of Toronto and the University of British Columbia. She is currently completing a second MASc in Civil/Environmental Engineering, with specialization in Infrastructures in Emergencies. In 2016 she was a journalism fellow at the Munk school of Global Journalism. In the same year, she was awarded the UBC Applied Science Dean’s Medal as well as the Outstanding Young Alumnus Achievement Award for her commitment and contribution to the international community.
