Sara Mokgadi Maja was born on 26 March 1964 in Polokwane, Limpopo Province. After matric she registered with the then Thabamoopo College of Education and acquired Senior Primary Teachers Diploma (SPTD). Sara started with her teaching career in 1995 at Feke Primary School in the Capricorn District, Limpopo Province as a Foundation Phase educator. She then proceeded with her studies and acquired BA degree and later on a BEd Honours degree and specialised in Early Childhood Development (ECD) with the University of South Africa (UNISA). She was later promoted to the Sekhukhune Education District as a Deputy Chief Education Specialist and coordinated the ECD and Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP). Her main activities in the ECD and EPWP directorate was to ensure that the ECD Practitioners are trained in various levels (NQF level 4 and above), paid stipend while undergoing training, trained on the implementation of the National Curriculum Framework (NCF) for Children from birth to four and monitored and supported the ECD centres. Sara is currently working for the Department of Basic Education as Chief Education Specialist in the ECD Directorate (birth to four) and is responsible for monitoring and support of the ECD centres.
