Saša Eichberger is Senior Environmental Specialist with the World Bank's Environment, Natural Resources, and Blue Economy (ENB) Global Practice for Europe and Central Asia (ECA). Based in Vienna, he leads in close collaboration with SD FO, ECA DE, Climate Change Focal Points (CCFP) from all GPs and CCG, Design4Climate (D4C) work to foster the climate and green transition agenda in ECA operations and improve climate co-benefits of the ECA project portfolio. Sasa also leads and contributes to green transition and climate change ASAs, operations, and business development across the ECA region.
Sasa has more than 20 years of international experience in climate change and sustainable development. He joined the World Bank in 2009 as the Austrian representative at the Community Development Carbon Fund (CDCF), and served from 2012 to 2018 as a consultant with the Climate Change Group (CCG), and since 2019 in the current role. Prior to joining the Bank, Sasa worked at the Austrian JI/CDM Programme (the program of the Austrian government to uphold Kyoto Protocol commitment by using carbon/climate finance mechanisms), was helping Uganda Carbon Bureau to develop the Improved Cook Stoves for East Africa (ICSEA), a rewarded Clean Development Mechanism Program of Activities (CDM PoA), was engaged as Sustainable Development and Climate Change Expert at the UNIDO for several years, and held various positions in venture capital and consulting companies. Sasa holds an MSc in Engineering (Energy/Process & Environmental Management) from the University of Sarajevo and an MBA from Vienna University of Economics (WU Wien) and the University of Minnesota Carlson School of Management.
