Senior Transport Specialist

Sean Michaels is a Senior Transport Specialist and Program Coordinator for Vietnam. His areas of expertise include climate resilient transport, project management, infrastructure planning and managemen, and institutional and governance reform. Sean currently leads the World Bank’s Small Island States Knowledge Area under the Transport Global Practice’s Safe and Resilient Knowledge Group.

A US national, he was previously a Senior Infrastructure Specialist based in Sydney, Australia, where he covered both operational and analytical work in infrastructure with a focus on transport in several IDA and IBRD countries in the Pacific Islands and East Asia. Previously, Sean worked on food security with a focus on infrastructure within the Middle East and North Africa region; and prior to joining the Bank, Sean had roles in strategy consulting and as an advisor to the US Executive Director at the EBRD.

He holds an MA in International Relations from John Hopkins SAIS. When not at work, Sean enjoys spending time with his family and friends, being outdoors, and travelling.
