Shakil is working as a Senior Economist with the World Bank’s Health, Nutrition and Population global practice team. He has 22 years of global experience in health care financing, primary health care, and health systems strengthening including policy development and analysis, implementation support and performance assessment working in several international organizations including the International Centre for Diarrhoeal Disease Research, Bangladesh (icddr,b), United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), the Nossal Institute for Global Health, Australia and the World Bank.
Shakil has led and contributed to high-level policy dialogue engagements, technical assistance, knowledge products, applied research activities, capacity building projects, corporate priorities, and strategic partnerships across several countries, regions, and in collaboration with multiple development partners including WHO, UNICEF, UNFPA, GAVI, DFAT and USAID, among others. He has also co-authored peer-reviewed journal articles, and published reports.
