Shanika Hettige is a Consultant at the World Bank. She joined in 2015 and has contributed to the Disaster Risk Management practice by working on the Open Data for Resilience Initiative (OpenDRI), the City Resilience Program (CRP), Resilient Transport Community of Practice, and other programs supported by the Global Facility for Disaster Reduction and Recovery (GFDRR). Shanika has experience in community mapping and participatory planning, risk communications, open data, and nature based risk reduction. She holds a master’s degree in Risk and Resilience from the Harvard Graduate School of Design, which builds on her prior focus on urban planning at Cornell University. Shanika works towards the protection of lives, livelihoods, and lifeline infrastructure in the face of disaster and climate risks through informed implementation of hard and soft resilience measures.
