Shankha Chakraborty is Professor of Economics at the University of Oregon. He received a Masters in Economics from the Delhi School of Economics (1994) and a PhD in Economics  from UCLA (1999). He specializes in the macroeconomics of economic development with interests ranging across population health, demography, human capital, culture and inequality. Recent work uses endogenous preference to study the role of culture and social norms on risk-taking, fertility and aspirations. His research has been published in leading academic journals including the Journal of Economic Theory, International Economic Review, Economic Journal, Journal of Monetary Economics and Journal of Economic Growth. He teaches graduate courses on macroeconomics and economic development, and undergraduate courses on international economics and economic growth. He has also held visiting positions at the International Monetary Fund, Indian Statistical Institute and University of New South Wales.
