Shoko is an urban planner by training, and a Disaster Risk Management (DRM) Specialist at the World Bank Tokyo DRM Hub. Prior to joining GFDRR, Shoko spent more than five years worked on climate and disaster resilient development in the Pacific and West Africa with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). Her areas of specialization include environmental policy and planning, climate change adaptation, disaster resilient design, and integrated water resource management. Shoko is a Japanese national. She holds a Master’s degree in City Planning from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and a Bachelor of Arts from Macalester College.
