Senior Health Specialist

Shun Mabuchi is a Senior Health Specialist at the Health, Nutrition and Population (HNP) Global Practice at the World Bank.  Shun is the task team leader of the Ebola Emergency Response Project for Guinea, Liberia, and Sierra Leone, which provides largest and most flexible funds that the governments of the three countries own for the Ebola response. He is also the team leader of the Polio Eradication Support Project for Nigeria, and a core member/co-task team leader of health systems strengthening projects in Nigeria, Liberia and Sierra Leone. Prior to joining the World Bank in 2011, Shun worked for McKinsey and Company as a management consultant in South Africa, Japan, Indonesia and Australia, helping strategy development, turnaround and operational reforms of private and public organizations in multiple industries (e.g., health, mining, retail, manufacturing, airline). He also worked for Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) as a project manager for Cambodia, Myanmar, El Salvador and Mongolia, and for UNDP as an advisor for pro-poor businesses in Indonesia. His main expertise is management and service delivery reforms in the health sector, as well as emergency disease responses. Shun has Master’s degrees in Public Policy from Harvard Kennedy School (Dean’s Award), and in Public Health from Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School (Sommer Scholar, Student Recognition Award, Delta-Omega Award). He is also in the Doctor in Public Health (DrPH) program at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School.
