Silvia Martínez Romero, Lead Energy Specialist in the Europe and Central Asia Region, has over 20 years of experience in the energy sector, including 13 years with the World Bank. Ms. Martinez is focal point for Ukraine and Moldova, and she also provides support on renewables to other countries in the region. Prior to this, she worked in the Latin American and Caribbean Region, as a focal point for energy in Brazil, Mexico and Colombia, leading a number of investment projects and technical assistance. She started her career at the Bank as a Senior Specialist in Renewable Energy in the Assistance Program for the Management of the Energy Sector (ESMAP), a fund of fiduciary of technical assistance of multiple donors administered by the World Bank.
Before joining the World Bank in 2011, she worked for the private sector in Engineering, Renewable Energy Project development, Research and Business Development in several large energy companies in Switzerland, Italy, Spain and the US. She holds a have an MS in Mechanical Engineering with focus on energy technologies by the Polytechnic University of Madrid, a post graduate degree on fluid dynamics for the turbomachinery design by the Von Karman Institute ( NATO funded) in Brussels, and an MBA by the Instituto de Empresa in Madrid. She has also completed certifications in Power Sector design and regulation at the Florence School of Regulation and on Public Private Partnerships at Harvard University.
