Sofia Amaral is an Economist at the World Bank South Asia Region Gender Innovation Lab. Prior to joining the Bank Sofia was an Assistant Professor (Post-doc) at the Center for Labor and Demographic Economics of the ifo Institute and the Empirical Economics Chair of the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich in Germany. Sofia led the Leibniz Junior Research Group on The Economics of Violence Against Women. Sofia has experience conducting impact evaluation and research in the context of India, UK, El Salvador, Mozambique, Pakistan and Bangladesh. Sofia is interested in studying policies to address violence against women and children and gender gaps in women’s economic and social dimensions, and economics of crime.
