Sofía Guerrero Gámez works as a Senior Transport Specialist for the World Bank Transport Global Practice and is based in Vienna, Austria, where she is providing advice on engineering and project management for transport projects in the Europe and Central Asia (ECA) region, managing a portion of the World Bank’s transport portfolio and contributing to analytical studies. She was previously based in Lima, Peru, where she contributed to transport and mobility projects in Latin America and the Caribbean. She joined the World Bank after 18 years working for Ferrovial, one of the world's leading infrastructure operators and municipal services companies, committed to developing sustainable solutions, with an extensive background in the construction of underground infrastructure projects. After 9 years working in Madrid for underground projects such as Madrid Metro Line 8 and submerging the M-30 ring road, she continued her professional career in London, where she worked for the Crossrail project, among others. Sofía is a chartered civil engineer from Spain, where she studied her masters in Civil Engineering, at the University of Granada. She holds a Master in Business Administration (MBA) by the Instituto de Empresa (IE), and a Poverty Reduction Master by SOAS (School of Oriental and African Studies), University of London.
During this period in the UK, she collaborated closely with the Institution of Civil Engineers and the Colegio de Caminos in Spain. Sofia was recognized in 2016 by the WICE (Women in Construction and Engineering) awards as the “Best Woman Civil Engineer”, in appreciation of her contribution to the industry.
