Sophie Grumelard is a Senior Social Protection Specialist focusing on social safety nets in fragile states. Her operational experience includes cash-for-work and cash transfer interventions, building social protection country systems, community-driven development (CDD), Recovery and Peacebuilding Assessments (RPBAs), and disarmament, demobilization, and reintegration (DDR). Sophie is currently based in the Democratic Republic of Congo and recently led the largest cash-for-work intervention in the Central African Republic. Her additional country experience includes Cameroon, Cote D’Ivoire, Haiti, and the Philippines. She is particularly interested in the use of technology for project monitoring and supervision in complex crises and is always keen to collaborate with humanitarian actors. Prior to joining the World Bank in 2012, Sophie worked for the United States Institute of Peace (USIP) and the Public International Law and Policy Group. She holds an M.A. in International Peace and Conflict Resolution from American University and an M.A. in International Business from University of Florida.
