Dr. Stefka Slavova is Lead Economist in the World Bank Group’s Finance, Competitiveness and Innovation Global Practice, Europe and Central Asia Region, based in Washington D.C. She leads World Bank lending projects in Turkey, focusing on private sector development and greening of industry. She spent three years in the World Bank’s Central Asia Regional Office in Almaty, Kazakhstan (2017-2019), leading several World Bank lending and analytical projects in Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan. She is a former EBRD Board Director for Bulgaria, Poland and Albania (2010-2014). She also advised the Open Society Foundation, New York, on Ukraine’s economic reform program after the Euro-Maidan (2014-2015). Prior to joining the EBRD in early 2010, she spent 10 years at the World Bank in Washington DC, where she worked most recently as a Senior Economist in the Investment Climate Department, advising different countries on the design of commercial laws and regulatory frameworks related to private business. At the World Bank, Dr. Slavova spent four years working on private sector development projects in the Latin America and Caribbean region. She contributed to various research studies and reports, focusing on investment climate issues and has a number of publications in academic and policy journals. Ms. Slavova holds a PhD in Economics from the London School of Economics and Political Science.
