Senior Advisor, Statistics and Monitoring (Education) – UNICEF New York HQ

Suguru Mizunoya was appointed as Senior Advisor of Statistics and Monitoring (Education) in UNICEF HQ in January 2020. In this role, he oversees UNICEF’s progress in education; SDG4 monitoring, education data generation, analysis, and capacity development. He leads the MICS-EAGLE (Education Analysis for Global Learning and Equity) since 2019.  Prior to his current position, he worked as the acting director of the global political economy program in the Chinese University of Hongkong, Chief of Education of UNICEF Kenya. Suguru has a Ph.D. and M.Phil. degrees in Economics and Education from Teachers College Columbia University and a master of International Affairs from School of International and Public Affairs (SIPA), Columbia University, and a Bachelors’ Degree in Human Sciences from the University of Tsukuba, Japan.  Suguru has written extensively on education policies about out-of-school children, education finance, inclusive education as well as social policy issues including social protection and universal health care financing.
