Tamara Bah

Social Development Consultant

Tamara Bah specializes in social development, disaster risk management, and livelihoods, with a focus on Africa. Since joining the World Bank in 2017, she has supported a global portfolio spanning Africa, Latin America, and Asia, providing analytical, technical, and operational support for lending projects that integrate community development and market-based approaches to gender equity.  

Before joining the Bank, Tamara worked with an international private-sector development consulting firm in Washington, D.C. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Economics and Arab Studies from American University, a Master’s in Gender and Development Studies from the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London, and completed additional studies at Harvard Kennedy School and Tufts University.  

Tamara was a Public Policy Fellow at Harvard’s Rappaport Institute for Greater Boston, where she contributed to policy development at the Massachusetts Executive Office of Economic Development. She has also consulted for the Center for Global Development and serves as a journal reviewer for Feminist Economics
